Overall Opinion:
Truthfully, it took me a while to figure out what I thought about mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily and how to rate it. On one hand, there are many positives to this prenatal vitamin. It’s vegan, easy to take, doesn’t come with any negative side effects, and the price is pretty reasonable compared to other prenatal vitamins on the market.
The issue I ran into was when I took a close look at the ingredient list. At first glance, this prenatal vitamin seems like a total winner. It contains nearly all of the necessary ingredients at the proper Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), and only leaves three ingredients off the list entirely.
However, the ingredients it’s low in or doesn’t contain at all are some of the most important ingredients to keep both mother and baby healthy during pregnancy. And that feels really irresponsible to me.
So if you’re still interested in mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily, definitely take a look at the entire review for a more detailed overview of this prenatal vitamin and hopefully you can reach a conclusion for yourself!
Detailed Opinion:
Ease of Use
For the most part, mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily is easy to take. You simply take one tablet daily with food, so you can choose to schedule it with one of your meals.
The only tricky part of taking this prenatal vitamin is how large and dry the pills are. These are definitely the type of tablets that could get stuck in your throat if you don’t have enough water on hand so make sure you don’t get yourself in that situation! I never had difficulty swallowing them, but I could easily see how others might run into this problem.
Taste
Since mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily is a tablet you swallow versus chewing, there really isn’t much of a taste. Before you swallow it, you have that average vitamin taste in your mouth, which isn’t good or bad in my eyes.
I didn’t experience any gross burps after taking it, however, which is normally how I judge a swallowed tablet when it comes to taste, so there’s nothing you need to worry about there!
Ingredient Analysis
I’ve heard a lot of hype surrounding mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily since it’s a vegan product and therefore suitable for many expectant mothers who have limited choices when it comes to vegan supplements!
After analyzing the ingredient list, I’m really torn on how I feel about this prenatal vitamin! It appears to have most of what you need for a healthy pregnancy, but the ingredients it leaves off or doesn’t include the full RDA of are pretty crucial ingredients to skimp on.
Before I jump into the bulk of the ingredient list breakdown, I did want to point out that mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily has 600 mcg of Folate in it. Not only is this the perfect amount, but it’s also in the form of Folate instead of Folic Acid. More and more women are finding that they need this ingredient specifically in the form of Folate, so that’s definitely a positive right off the bat!
In addition to have the proper RDA of Folic Acid, mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily also has the right amount of Vitamin A, Thiamin-B1, Riboflavin-B2, Niacin-B3, Pyridoxine-B6, Biotin-B7, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K.
mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily is slightly low in Iron and Zinc, and really low in Iodine. This is a major letdown since Iodine isn’t found in many foods we eat, so having it in your prenatal vitamin is key. Iodine is crucial for the healthy development of the central nervous system, so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t give the proper RDA for this ingredient.
Another negative about mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily is that they failed to include Calcium, Choline, and Omega-3s in their ingredient makeup, which is a big bummer. I’m never really worried when I don’t see Calcium on the list since we find that naturally in so many of the foods we eat in our diet, so that isn’t too big of a deal.
However, I’m most upset about Choline since it’s linked to brain development, liver functions, and the creation of organs, so it’s a super important ingredient. If you choose this prenatal vitamin, you’ll absolutely want to make sure you take a Choline supplement or chat with your doctor about ways to get Choline in your diet.
So overall, I’m conflicted when it comes to the ingredient list for mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily. On one hand, they include almost all of the necessary ingredients, and most of them are at the proper RDA. However, not including the full amount of Iodine and leaving off Choline completely seems irresponsible to me.
Side Effects
I didn’t experience any negative side effects while taking mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily.
Price/Value
mykind Organics Prenatal Once Daily falls in the middle of the spectrum as far as price tag is concerned.
However, I’m not totally sure whether it’s worth the money or not. On one hand, it does include many of the ingredients necessary to keep you and your baby healthy during pregnancy. However, the ingredients it’s low in or leaves off completely would require you to purchase additional supplements, so this may become a pricey prenatal vitamin to choose.
